Shirt Project
A creation of a shirt that simultaneously holds masculine and feminine
qualities. I created a piece that related to a concept that I am very passionate about - gender roles. Coming from a patriarchal, con-
servative culture, I wanted to make a garment that rebelled against that
idea and have both a male and female wear the garment. Based on my
research, I was inspired by Rei kawakubo’s exhibition titled “Art of the
In-Between” which focused on abstract concepts that blur the lines of
what is opposite or not. Visually, I am inspired by high fashion brands
that have created androgynous pieces such as YSL and Jean Paul Gault-
ier. I also wanted to focus on weights of fabric and asymmetry to further
my theme of blurred lines.
